“Just one vote!” Mike Lawler is wrong for NY-17

The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” passed the House of Representatives by just one vote!

Mike Lawler, representing our congressional district, cast the deciding vote!  Now we in CD17 and people all across the country are paying the price.

Two recent polls named CD17 Priorities: In every case, Congressman Lawler voted against our interests.

AFFORDABILITY and the OBBBA:

Lawler’s vote for the OBBBA brought:

  • ·      Medicaid cuts that have closed or threatened hospitals, clinics and treatment centers throughout NY17.

  • ·      SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition) cuts that deprive families and children of essential food support

  • ·      The end of Affordable Care subsidies that are driving thousands in CD17 off medical plans, leaving them without medical coverage, burdening hospitals with emergency visits, and raising medical insurance rates for all

AFFORDABILITY AND THE TARIFFS:

Lawler supports Trump’s Tariffs, resulting in:

  • ·      Rising costs in the supermarket, forcing families to choose between food and medical visits

  • ·      Higher costs on construction materials for housing and housing renovations

  • ·      Pressure on businesses that must pass the tariff costs on to consumers

PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT:

Lawler voted to roll back or limit environmental regulations, undermining climate action goals ‍ ‍Lawler favors re-opening Indian Point as a nuclear facility Lawler has been silent as the Administration has paid companies to halt wind and solar projects

IMMIGRATION:

Lawler supports stricter immigration enforcement measures Lawler defends ICE actions, even the killings of peaceful protesters Lawler opposes the Rockland County Immigrant Protection bill, modeled on Westchester County’s Immigrant Protection Act Lawler falsely labels legal local decisions to limit police collaboration with ICE as creating “sanctuary” cities and counties. Lawler does not favor a path to citizenship for immigrants

HUDSON VALLEY RESIDENTS OPPOSE U.S. INVOLVEMENT IN WARS EXCEPT UNDER IMMINENT THREAT:

Despite overwhelming opposition to the Iran war from his CD17 constituents:

Lawler supports Trump’s Illegal and Unconstitutional War in Iran, resulting in:

  • Deaths and serious injury to our military men and women

  • Civilian deaths and destruction to civilian infrastructure

  • Surging prices of gas at the pump, oil for home heating, and diesel for farmers, public works and product transportation

  • Billions of tax dollars spent on the war

Lawler refuses to hold Trump accountable to Congress:  Lawler refused to sign the War Powers Resolution, by which Congress could exercise its constitutional responsibility to declare or end war

Lawler supported the bombing of small fishing vessels in international waters and military action in Venezuala, despite the Administration’s failure to provide evidence that these were in response to an imminent risk to the U.S.

CD17 RESIDENTS RECOGNIZE THREATS TO OUR DEMOCRACY AND CURTAILING OF OUR FREEDOMS:

Lawler supported Republican-led positions and legislation that restricts abortion access

Lawler voted to Defund Public Media—eliminating federal funding of NPR and PBS

Lawler voted to restrict federal DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) initiatives, policies and programs

Lawler allies with GOP positions on LGBTQ+ issues

Lawler opposed Biden’s efforts to grant broad student loan forgiveness

CD17 RESIDENTS OPPOSE THE ADMINISTRATION’S BLATANT CORRUPTION AND DISREGARD FOR THE RULE OF LAW:

Lawler supports Trump’s ballroom and the spending of hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars while cutting vital programs

Lawler is silent about the multiple reports of no-bid federal contracts going to favored companies, huge investments by foreign powers in businesses owned by Trump’s family, and countless other blatant acts of governmental corruption
